DDW 2011 Exhibition Objects Rescoped

Objects Rescoped exhibition during the Dutch Design Week 2011 Eindhoven.

In collaboration with Carolina Wilcke, we designed the exhibition.

‘Objects Rescoped’ questions why things are the way they are. Wandering through a landscape of smaller and larger ‘viewers’, your perspective shifts from detail to overview and back again. Noticing instead of merely looking is the essential theme. The participants, who especially created new work, give their own refreshing view on re-appreciating. They are redefining the meaning of apparently ordinary things; rust turns into silver beauty as soon as you zoom in on it and a geometrical object seems to be able to create eclipses, fog and clouds.

The various projects get extra depth in a conversation on Sunday night the 23rd with ‘re-appreciating’ as a red line. Accompanied by a philosopher, a sociologist and a psychologist you will travel beyond what your eyes can see.

Poetic Colours – participants

Origin, the cycle of life, and the re-use of materials play an important role next to the use of pastel colours in the exhibition. The re-use of materials is visible in the work of Chris Ruhe with his ‘Doorcabinet’. The woolen blankets are the old AB blancets specially designed by Romboud Maris in a pink coloursceme to fit in a unique furniture piece called ‘Dekenbank’. The installation designed by autonomous designer Hye Yoo Mi is made out of old pieces of lining used in Japanese Kimono’s, re-used in   a giant patchwork. In the sculpture ‘Hair Tree',
the origin of nature is captured by the basketry of fake hair. The cycle of light and movement in the
lighting object ‘The Rhythm of light’ designed by Susanne de Graef shows a magical performance of colours. Architectural forms are used in the fashion collection ‘Organic Architecture' of Eunbi Kim and the concepts hard and soft are used in the design of the fashion pieces ‘Poetic Business’ of Kisten Popkema. It emphasizes the use of lines and surfaces.
